Punjab Superintendent of Police (SP), booked on the allegations of illegally obtaining call details of a Ferozepur man, has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court for anticipatory bail.
Taking up the petition filed by Raj Balwinder Singh through counsel SPS Sidhu, Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan has put the state government and other respondents on notice
The petitioner, presently posted at 13 Battalion PAP, Mohali, was seeking anticipatory bail in FIR dated April 13 under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, besides Section 72 of Information Technology Act and Section 120-B of the IPC registered at Kharar city police station in Mohali district.
The case was registered on the basis of a report made on the complaint of Varinder Pal Singh. He had alleged that call details of a mobile was obtained from a service provider by the office of Mohali SSP on request by the office of Kharar DSP. It was in connection with another FIR registered at Kharar city police station.
It was alleged that the record was not required for any investigation and there was misuse/abuse of public office of Kharar DSP.
