Indian drug dealer jailed in England

London, May 3 An Indian-origin drug dealer has been jailed for nearly eight years by a UK court for conspiring to supply 10 kg of cocaine in London. Gurdip Samra, 44, was arrested in November last year as part of a joint operation by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and Scotland Yard’s Organised Crime Partnerships (OCP). The officers first arrested Samra’s accomplice, Mark Lammin, after accosting him as he carried 10 kg of cocaine in a large holdall in Surrey, south-east England. A short time later, officers stopped a black Range Rover, which was parked in the vicinity of his planned drugs handover and arrested Samra. Drug overdose claims another life in Moga

Tribune News Service Moga, April 30 A 39-year-old person died, allegedly due to drug overdose, at Longiwind village in Dharamkot subdivision of this district, the police officials revealed here on Monday. It is the third such case in the past three weeks. Head Constable Surjit Singh, posted at the Kot-Ise-Khan police station, said the deceased had been identified as Sandip Sharma of Zira in Ferozepur district. Sandip’s wife had left him about five years ago due to his habit of taking drugs. Preliminary investigations revealed that Sandip had come to Longiwind to take drugs. His brother Lohar Sharma told the police that his brother injected himself with drugs. It is believed that he injected an overdose of drugs, which has led to his death. Neglected, heritage monument turns into haven for drug addicts

Praful Chander Nagpal Fazilka, April 30 The 117-year-old protected monument, Raghuvar Bhawan, in Fazilka is proving to be haven for drug addicts. Historian Lachhman Dost, who spearheaded a long agitation to get heritage status for one of the oldest buildings of the town, alleged that addicts could be seen hovering around the building. They take shelter in the unattended building and consume drugs there. Aman Arora raises question over the efforts of govt. for drug de-addiction and rehabilitation in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Sunam Aman Arora has raised serious questions over the casual efforts being made by Punjab govt. to tackle the problem of drug addiction in state. In a press statement Arora said that the state govt. is not making sincere efforts in the process of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation of the addicts. He said that the Punjab state board for de-addiction and rehabilitation was constituted by the govt. in June 2014 but nothing much has been done by the board till now.
