Chandigarh, June 18 AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira’s statement on the Sikh Referendum 2020 saw a renewed confrontation between state co-convener Dr Balbir Singh and Khaira on Monday even as a number of party MLAs termed it a non-issue. Balbir Singh took on the Leader of Opposition Khaira on Twitter for the latter’s remarks on Sunday that the party leaders issued statements against him on the referendum without first clarifying what he had actually said. Dr Balbir tweeted that he called up Khaira five times, but the latter “didn’t respond”. Today, Khaira insisted on Twitter he was not in favour of the referendum. CM takes up scholarship scheme issue with Centre

Tribune News Service Chandigarh, June 15 The state government has taken strong exception to the Centre’s move to revise the guidelines of the post-matric scholarship scheme, stating it has come as a major setback for the students from poor economic background. The educational institutions have been allowed to charge fee from the SC students at the time of admission and the fee will be later reimbursed into the accounts of the students. Many of the students from poor economic background are not in a position to pay the fee at the time of admission, the state has pointed out.
