Quality of education slipping, says panel

This follows the average pass percentage of 59 per cent in government schools this year. The special committee took into account the findings of different studies conducted by the National Achievement Survey (NAS) by the NCERT, ASER by Pratham, evaluation of class V and VIII results by SCERT and general results of class X and XII before listing out an action plan for improvement. He underlined that the process should include consultation with the states. Presenting the case of Punjab during the fourth meeting of NITI Aayog’s governing council that was presided over by Modi, Amarinder urged the Centre to include rivers of Punjab for capital assistance on the lines of the Ganga Action Plan. Vigilance raids market panel office

Sources say the issue concerns two seats — Ludhiana to be contested by the BJP and Amritsar by the Akali Dal. They say a six-member coordination committee of Akali and state BJP leaders will be formed soon to sort out the matter. Panel to probe plot allotment

Ropar, June 5 Ropar Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday constituted a four-member high-powered committee to probe the controversial allotment of 5-marla plots at Khatana village. DC Gurneet Tej said the committee, headed by ADC (Development) Amardeep Gujral, would comprise Chamkaur Sahib SDM Ruhi Dug, Anandpur Sahib Naib Tehsildar Surinder Pal and Block Development and Panchayat Officer. It has been asked to file the report within 48 hours.
