Tribune News Service Moga, July 9 The anti-narcotics cell of the police seized 100 cases (1,200 bottles) of smuggled liquor from an Innova car on the Chuhar Chak-Kaonke link road in Moga. However, the liquor smugglers managed to flee. According to details, on a tip-off the police stopped a car on the Chuhar Chak-Kaonke link road at 2.10 pm. On seeing the police, the occupants of the car stopped the vehicle and managed to flee. The police recovered 1,200 bottles of country made liquor from it. This consignment of liquor was labeled for sale in Haryana, but it was smuggled into Punjab for illegal sale. Muktsar: The police on Wednesday claimed to have seized 8,950 intoxicant injections and 1,700 sedative pills and arrested a resident of Harike Kalan village. Ropar: The police reportedly seized 468 cases of illicit liquour from a truck at Chatamla T-point near Morinda on Wednesday. Driver Gurpreet Singh and truck owner Surjit Singh, both of Sirsa, have been arrested, said Ropar SSP Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu. Their accomplice Harjinder Singh, alias Harvinder, of Chandigarh managed to flee. The police have impounded the truck which was following Harvinder’s car. Tribune News Service Moga, July 4 The Moga police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a gang involved in supplying poppy husk from Rajasthan to various parts of Moga and its adjoining districts. The police have arrested four drug smugglers and recovered 102 kg of poppy husk from them. SP (investigation) Vazir Singh and DSP (investigation) Sarbjit Singh Bahia said Harjit Singh Jeeta, Sewak Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Kulwant Singh were arrested from near Ramuwala Kalan village. Tribune News Service Mohali, July 3 Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) nabbed a 20-year-old student for gold smuggling and recovered around 7 kg of gold, worth Rs 2.1 crore, from his possession at the international airport here on Tuesday. This was the second biggest recovery of gold at the local airport. The accused, Amandeep Singh, a resident of Bathinda, was travelling from Dubai. Sources said he was nabbed on a tip-off. The accused had hidden the gold in two irons. He had changed the inner plates of the irons with nickel-coated gold. Both irons were functional.  “The weight of each plate was 3.5 kg,” the sources further said. Tribune News Service Amritsar, July 1 Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 95 lakh at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in the past two days. Two foreign nationals, travelling from Dubai, had concealed gold worth Rs 44 lakh in their rectum to dodge the officials at the Amritsar airport on Sunday, but were caught. Though the identification of accused has not been revealed due to investigation concerns, officials said they arrived at the airport via India Express IX 192 flight, but were apprehended as they appeared suspicious.
