Abohar: The police on Tuesday registered another case under Section 420 of the IPC against Devi Lal of Basant Nagar here, who is posted as manager, Bank Staff Thrift and Credit Society, Bathinda. Prem Chand of Dashmesh Nagar had alleged that Devi Lal had embezzled Rs 49.44 lakh he had handed over to him for investing in fixed and recurring deposits. Earlier, a case was registered against Devi Lal on the complaint of Jiwan Chhabra and his wife regarding a similar fraud of Rs 75 lakh. Another ‘wilful’ defaulter held

Sangrur, June 19 Officials of Punjab Agriculture Development Bank (PADB) have arrested another alleged wilful defaulter, who has not been paying instalments of 10 loans worth Rs 60 lakh. “We have arrested Sukhwinder Singh of Daska village, a nephew of former PADB director Jagwinder Singh. He had taken 10 loans worth Rs 60 lakh in 2012-13, in the name of his family members, but stopped paying instalments in 2016. The total outstanding is now Rs 76.5 lakh,” said Rajnish Bansal, regional officer, PADB. After Sukhwinder failed to pay heed to repeated reminders, the PADB authorities procured his arrest warrants from Assistant Registrar, Moonak, on Monday. — TNS The Tribune

Three vehicle thieves held

Phagwara, June 19 The police have busted an inter-district gang of vehicle thieves and arrested its three members identified as Gagandeep and Shivam of Daddal Mohalla and Kamaljit of New Satnampura. The police have recovered four stolen motorcycles from the accused who were nabbed near Subhash Nagar Chowk on Tuesday. A case has been registered in this regard. Garbage pit in college ground demolished

Sangrur, June 19 Two days after The Tribune highlighted the attempts of the local authorities to construct a garbage pit in the playground of Ranbir College in a news report “Garbage pit in college ground irks Sangrur residents”, the authorities on Tuesday demolished the under-construction pit. The Nagar Council had started the construction of a garbage pit in the college ground without taking written permission from the college principal. When some locals approached her, she asked the authorities to stop the construction. Our Correspondent Abohar, June 19 Akali district secretary and Abohar Insecticides and Fertiliser Dealers Association president Suresh Satija has been arrested under Sections 465, 467 and 471 of the IPC and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act.
