SSP Dr Ketan Baliram Patil said at a media briefing here on Wednesday that on a tip-off the CIA staff tried to intercept a car that was escorting a canter on the state highway, but the driver of the car sped away. On searching the canter, 21 bags of poppy husk (each containing 25 kg) was seized. Driver Amarjot Singh of Rampura Phul in Bathinda district was arrested. The arrests were made by the Jalandhar Counter-Intelligence Wing and the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate, a press release said here on Thursday. A proclaimed offender in about a dozen drug cases, Zeera had been evading arrest for the past 14 years. Two trucks loaded with poppy husk were intercepted by a special operation team on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, said a spokesperson for the police. Fatehgarh Sahib,May 24 The police have arrested four persons and recovered 80 kg of poppy husk and 17,400 intoxicant tablets from them. Alka Meena, SSP, said the Khamano police had erected a naka near the railway line. The police intercepted two suspects — Hardeep Singh of Ropar and Dharminder Singh of Ludhiana — and recovered poppy husk from their possession.
