Nakodar mill expecting 21.50 lakh quintals sugar cane this season

Nakodar: The cash-strapped Nakodar cooperative sugar mill is in for better times this crushing season. As per estimates, the mill is likely to receive more than 21.50 lakh quintals of sugarcane this year which is almost equal to 21.52 lakh quintals received last year. Managing director of the mill S.K.Kureel said the sugarcane was being cultivated over 3288 hectares. He said the minimum price of sugarcane has been fixed at Rs 310 per quintal by the Union Government. Kureel said the mill incurred Rs. 29.9 crore loss last year due to high production cost and the total deficit is Rs 160.82 crores.MD said the cost of production of one quintal sugar was Rs. 4494 whereas its sale price was Rs. 3103.

Khanna police recovers two quintals of spurious “Khoya”

In a drive started by the Khanna police under the Mission Tandrust Punjab, two quintals of spurious “Khoya” has been recovered. Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya informed that this Khoya was purchased from Panipat in Haryana and was to be supplied at cheap prices to different shops in Garhshankar town of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district and other areas of the state.

Markfed inspector held for selling damaged wheat, 37 quintals seized

Tribune News Service Sangrur, February 1 The police have arrested two persons, including Markfed Inspector Jaswinder Singh, and seized 37 quintals of illegally sold damaged wheat from the possession of the purchaser last night. Earlier too wheat theft cases have been reported from the Naiwala road godown. A team of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Bahadur Singh Wala, got a tip-off that some Markfed officers of Barnala were involved in selling damaged wheat from the Naiwala godown. A special team under Sub-Inspector Randhir Ram intercepted two pick-up vehicles near Naam Charcha Ghar of Longowal.
